One of the most meaningful aspects of this work for me is maintaining healthy skin and coat.
The science of skincare is so interesting to me that I have sought additional education in this area which defines the services that I do-and do not-offer.
Skin and coat work as a team to perform many functions that contribute to your dog’s whole health. It is for this reason that I choose to maintain optimal health rather than repeatedly correcting an unhealthy situation, achieved by the schedule I set for your dog.
Your dog will receive a bath with carefully chosen products from the three excellent lines that I use, including appropriate conditioning for each coat. I will Dremel the nails to the shortest possible length, smoothing as I go. We work up to this for puppies and dogs who are frightened of the grinder. Your dog is then carefully hand dried, brushed, combed and the dead hair is manually carded out of non-shedding coats. This is an important step to remove dead hair from the follicle beds so new healthy hair can replace it and skin can enjoy ideal health. Trimming the ends of your dog’s hair does not accomplish this often overlooked step.
Then we finish with the haircut of your choice, with the exception of very short shaves because this may damage follicle beds and increases the chance of irritation. By trimming no shorter than 1/4”, I am also able to exclusively use a clipper that is smoother and quieter than the equipment required for the shortest shaving, thereby also eliminating stress for your dog.
